A plant cell recycles its resources in times of scarcity

ChlamydomonasIf certain nutrients are missing, such as iron, the alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii temporarily dismantles its photosystems to recycle some of their components. The team of Michel Goldschmidt-Clermont has identified a protein that plays a distinctive role in this recycling. Their results were published on April 25, 2016, in The Plant Cell.
